Shillong, June 07: A programme on “Brainstorming on Bioresources with special references to Medicinal Plants and Traditional Foods of Mizoram was organised by Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) at Conference Room, Directorate of Science and Technology, Govt. of Mizoram.
The programme highlighted important research areas on bioresource development to promote bioeconomy through translational research. IBSD is organizing such programme in NE region to commemorate ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
Prof. Pulok Mukherjee, Director, IBSD highlighted the research activities of IBSD for development of Bioeconomy from Bioresources of Mizoram in the area of Medicinal Plants and traditional fermented foods of the region.
He highlighted the initiatives of IBSD on phytopharmaceutical mission for “Tradition to Translation” for exploration of traditional knowledge and natural resources for boosting the bioeconomy of the region.
Pu Lalmalsawma Pachuau, IRS, Secretary to the Govt. of Mizoram, Planning & Programme Implementation Department, Govt of Mizoram suggested all stakeholders to work under a common platform for brainstorming on Bioeconomy from Bioresources of Mizoram.
Pu Er. H. Lalsawmliana, Chief Scientific Officer, DST, Govt of Mizoram appreciated the initiative of IBSD on Medicinal Plants and Traditional Foods of Mizoram. He expressed his though and promised to offer all support for research programmes on utilisation of bioresources of Mizoram that can help in improving the bioeconomy of the state.
During the programme, many experts including Prof. N Senthil Kumar, Dr Lalchhandami Tochhawng shared their research activities to work in collaboration. The programme was attended by researchers from different institute including State Medicinal Plant Board, Mizoram University, Mizoram Science, Technology & Innovation Council, Govt. of Mizoram, and RIPANS.
