If permission granted to MLMDF for Sit-In-Protest the smame should be granted to HITO

Shillong, March 31: The President of HITO Mr. Donbok Dkhar has written to the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District objecting to the request for sit-in protest by the MLMDF and if permission granted request for similar permission for HITO should be allowed.

In the letter the President of HITO  stated that he saw in the news report of the proposed Sit-In-Protest by the MLDF in Shillong that such a request made by the MLMDF headed by SK Choudhary on the recent murders of two peoples at Ichamati, Shella.

Although it is a democratic right of people to protest this particular request to protest at this moment will only inflame and create and increase communal tensions. HITO President appeal to the other non-Khasi community to appreciate the fact that the Khasi people are continuously fighting and struggling for our rights.

For the last 76 years (1948-2024) facing large-scale silent economic and political invasion from outsiders due to the non-fulfilment of the solemn  National commitment of the treaty terms of the Annexed Agreement under the conditional Instrument of Accession signed and accepted by the Government of India and the Khasi people since last 76 years.

A historic advisory from the National Commission for Schedule Tribes (NCST) in April 2012 to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, and Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs to incorporate the terms of the Annexed Agreement into the Constitution of India has to date been strangely ignored by both the Center and the State making a mockery of Article 338A of the Constitution of India.

This non fulfillment of the above treaty has brought about a sense of insecurity among the indigenous Khasi people and they continue to demonstrate and protest democratically.

Secondly, they would also like to ask what actions have been taken about the letter (REF/HITO/CB/AP018)dated 24/01/2022 sent by the organization two years back in lieu of the hate-mongering by individuals mentioned in the letter . A follow-up to the matter would be highly appreciated.

HITO is not against the protest by the MLMDF. It is the constitutional right of anyone or any organisation to peacefully assemble in protest of an issue, however if such protest is permitted to MLMDF we the HITO would also like to request that permission is granted to HITO to assemble peacefully in protest for justice in respect to the murder of Late Lurshai Hynniewta on the same date and venue where permission is permitted for the MLMDF in Shella and Sohra or Shillong.

They  strongly oppose and condemn the allegation made by the CWC against the  KSU, unless police find concrete evidence it is premature and incorrect to accuse and insinuate that tribals are doing all assault and criminal activities in the state against the Bengali Community.

Who knows this could have been done by other undesirable groups or communities to bring a bad name to the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Community, said Mr. Donbok Dkhar President HITO and Mr. Wanhun N Dkhar Secretary HITO.
