Shillong, July 06: The Jaiñtia National Council, Khliehriat Circle, led by working President Diamon Bareh today submitted formal complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaiñtia Hills District alleged on the serious failure of the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) in the district.
The organization stated that “As per government guidelines, children below six years and pregnant and lactating women are entitled to receive supplementary nutrition for 25 days in a month, including daily hot cooked meals and morning snacks for the 3–6 years age group at Anganwadi centres.
In reality, across many villages in the Khliehriat area, food is being distributed only once in one, two or even three months, and there is no regular hot cooked meal or morning snack for our children. This is not an administrative “minor lapse”; it is a direct denial of basic nutritional rights”.
During our interactions with the CDPO, it has been indicated that supplies and indents allegedly reach the district only once in two or three months, making it impossible to follow the norms. If this is true, it exposes a structural failure at the state/directorate level.
If it is false, it raises serious questions on the integrity of local implementation and reporting. In both scenarios, it is the children and mothers of East Jaiñtia Hills who suffer.
JNC has demanded a time‑bound inquiry into SNP implementation in East Jaiñtia Hills, including a month‑wise account of supplies received from the state and distributions made to each Anganwadi centre.
They have called upon the Deputy Commissioner to ensure that responsibility is fixed.whether at district or state level, and that immediate corrective steps are taken so that the scheme functions as promised in policy, not only on paper.
They make it clear that Jaiñtia National Council will continue to monitor this issue closely. Our demand is simple and non‑negotiable: that Jaiñtia children and mothers must receive the food and nutrition that is their right, in every month, in every village.
