Shillong May 29: The Khasi Student Union (KSU) made ample clear that the state government should stop immediately the construction of railway line in the Khasi Hills region, till the time that the government has put all in place the mechanism to check influx, then they will discussed on the railway line, said its president Mr Lambokstarwell Marngar.
The KSU president, while addressing media person at the office of the organization, said that the state government should expedite the work on how to check influx, instead of doing so they are so eager to constructed the railway line which the organization has made it stand clear that there should be no railway line in the Khasi Hills region without having any mechanism to stop influx.
The organization stand by the written agreement sign between the state government and the organization in 2011, where the state government agreed that they will not touched the subject of Railway line, but the constriction that was carried out in the Ri Bhoi District the state government has backtrack from the agreement or the state government has denounce to its own agreement.
Recalling to what has happen on Saturday the KSU blame the District administration for it provocative attitude, the KSU president said that it is the who started manhandling to the KSU volunteers at Shangbangla village, where the leaders has agreed for the talk with the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of police.
But to its surprise, instead of talking to the organization they have order to arrest two of its leaders and lathi charge its volunteers by cordoning at the Deputy Commissioner office alleged the KSU leader. In this lathi charge many of its members were injured and even members of the public, this action of the district administration has provoked the organization. The KSU blame the district administration for what has happens on the 27th May 2017.
On the claims made by the Deputy Commissioner that he has received the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the KHADC, the KSU demand that he should made it public if such NOC is granted by the KHADC, and the KHADC also should made clear to the public if they have issued the NOC for the construction of the railway line.
From the organization sent a clear message to the state government that they should released the KSU leaders who were arrested and book them under the MMPO Act. The message to the state government is very clear stop construction of the Railway line. The statement claim by the Deputy Commissioner that people of the village welcome the railway line, the KSU made it clear who ever they may be they are not the authority to decide the future of the whole khasi region.
