Shillong, March 19: On 12.2.2014, a written FIR was received from Shri Ramanuj Das of Bishop Cotton Road, Shillong to the effect that his brother Shri Digbijoy Das was missing since 7.2.2014 and later they received a call from an unknown caller that his brother was abducted/kidnapped and in the custody of the unknown kidnappers.
He will be released only after the relatives pay a ransom of Rs.2 Crores. Accordingly a case vide Shillong Sadar PS Case No.39(2)14 u/s 364(A)/506 IPC was registered and investigation taken-up. In this connection, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was set-up under the direct command and direction of Shri Vivek Syiem,MPS, Superintendent of Police(City), Shillong.
The Special Cell of S.P’s Office was also made a part of the SIT. From the initial stage, top priority was given for the safety of the victim and all efforts were made to ensure that no harm came to him. After 41(forty one) days in captivity, the SIT was able to rescue the victim unharmed from Gaspara Simola, Amsui under Nagaon District (Assam) on 19.3.2014 at around 3.00 AM from a secluded hut.
In this connection 5(five) members of the gang namely ,Shri Rashendra Paul (39 years) of Jail Road, Shillong, Shri Tapas Paul(21 years) of Jamunamukh, Nagaon, Shri Pradeep Das (29 years) of Senshua, Nagaon, Shri Tarender Das (38 years) of Amsui, Nagaon and Bhutka Das (30 years) of Amsui, Nagaon were arrested. three Mobile phones, eight Sim Cards, one .32 Pistol, two Rounds of .32 ammunition; Chains to cuff the victim and four, Daos were recovered from their possession and seized.
The success of the operation was based on a few important factors, The sincerity, dedication, hard work, patience of the SIT where they had to painstakingly and cautiously trace the accused persons and at the same time ensure that kidnappers do not suspect that the relatives had approached police.
The total faith of the family members on the District Police for which they shared every bit of information which may help us during the investigation.The use of technology and human intelligence collection.
The Police would also like to place on record their appreciation to some of the Press fraternity who knew about the kidnapping but on request by Police not to print the same as the life of the victim was in jeopardy, cooperated and did not print the story.(SP News)
