Shillong, July 22: The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), a National Institute of Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India wins the ASEAN Sustainability Leadership Award for 2016 in the field of Academic Leadership for its outstanding contribution in the field of Sustainable Development.
The award was received by Professor Dinabandhu Sahoo, Director of IBSD at Manila, Philippines today. The function was organized at Grand Ballroom of Hotel Marriott in Manila where more than 200 delegates participated in the glittering ceremony.
While receiving the Award Prof. Sahoo thanked the organizers and the people of ASEAN countries for recognizing the contribution of IBSD at International level. He said the Indo -Myanmar region which is amongst the top 10 Biodiversity Hotspots in the world has a lot of opportunities to offer in terms of Biodiversity, jobs and ecosystem services.
At the same time, he said, the region needs to be protected. The Indian company ITC also won the award in the field of Supply Chain and Singapore Port Authority were other notable awardees. Prof. Sahoo said IBSD’s responsibility has increased now, after getting this prestigious award. The press statement also said “We will have to work much harder now. He thanked the people of North East India for reposing faith on this Institute”.
