Shillong, August 31: The North Eastern Hills University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) numbering in their hundreds marched towards the office of the Vice Chancellor, North Eastern Hills University (NEHU) demanding the immediate removal of Prof. F.A Qadri within two days for his allege involvement in sexually harassing a Research Scholar student, Department of History.
The students started their march from the NEHU Central Library and concluded at the office of the NEHU Vice Chancellor Krishna Srivastava, while also carrying placard condemning the actions of the professor.
Speaking to reporter here on Wednesday, Tyrchain Lypon, president of NEHUSU, informed that the Union had received a complaint letter filed by one student on August 26, regarding the alteration of Supervisor on grounds of sexual harassment in the Department of History.
The leader of the union has further informed that the complaint letter has also reached the Women’s Cell of NEHU and investigation is currently underway on the allegations made the student against the professor for sexual harassment.
“As of right now we will wait only for two days on the investigation carried out by the Women’s Cell of NEHU,” NEHUSU president said.
The NEHUSU in a memorandum submitted to VC of NEHU has demanded removal of Prof. Qadri as the Dean, School of Social Sciences and immediate termination of his services as teacher from the University. Further the Union demanded that the University should not tolerate any case of sexual harassment and thereby punish the culprit immediately.
Meanwhile, Prof. Manmohan Singh, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor of NEHU informed the agitated students that the administrative wing of the University are awaiting the report from the Women’s Cell of NEHU and on receiving the report they will look into the allegations against Prof. Qadri seriously.
