NEHUSU question the Vice Chancellor  of NEHU why personnel interview held in Guwahati

Shillong, Dec 03: The NEHUSU have asked the Vice-Chancellor of NEHU Prof. P. S. Shukla the reasons for holding the recent interviews for Controller of Examinations, University Engineer and Librarian in Guwahati and not in Shillong-the Headquarter of NEHU.

The Association have further requested the VC to hold all future interviews for various posts only in the Headquarter of the University, which is in the Shillong campus. The NEHUSU demanded that no interviews should be held outside the Headquarter for upholding the dignity and importance of the Headquarter.

Further, the Union questioned how a person with no experience in any academic institution or higher education institute have been selected for appointment as the Controller of Examination (COE) violating all set criteria for appointment of COE.

The Union wanted to know what exceptional value and experience this selected person will bring as a COE when he had no prior experience of working in any academic institution and was working in military institution throughout his career.

Although, there were many eligible applicants including senior Associate Professors from various colleges affiliated to NEHU, they were screened out and this man was screened in.

Moreover, there was also a candidate who has earlier served his full term as COE of NEHU but was not selected. All these circumstances smack of conspiracy and favouritism towards a particular candidate who was selected.

The NEHUSU also raises question as to why nobody was found fit to serve as University Engineer (UE) when among the shortlisted candidates there was also a candidate with vast experiences who had also served NEHU one full term as UE.

The student body finds it unacceptable that the current Vice Chancellor found the same person now as unfit to be UE. The Union finds it utterly unjustified and disturbing raising doubts about the selection process.

The Union is quite worried that there are hidden agenda in not appointing a UE and selecting the most unqualified person among the applicants as COE which is going to bring down the functioning of the Examination Department of NEHU.

This will adversely affect the students of NEHU and its affiliated colleges and the State of Meghalaya as a whole. The NEHUSU demanded an immediate remedial measure in the interest of students of NEHU in particular and the State of Meghalaya in general.
