On the foundation day of Uttarakhand-Jharkhand cultural show held at Raj Bahvan Shillong

Shillong, November 15: In line with the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative of the Government of India, which aims to foster stronger connections and promote mutual understanding among people from different states and Union Territories, a cultural evening was held at Raj Bhavan Shillong to commemorate the Foundation Day of Uttarakhand and Jharkhand.

The Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Shri D P Wahlang, IAS, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, in the presence of the Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, Dr B D R Tiwari, IAS.

In his address, Shri D P Wahlang lauded the central government’s initiative to celebrate the Foundation Day of various states, emphasizing its invaluable role in fostering greater integration and nurturing a deeper appreciation for each other’s languages, customs, and cultures.

He further drew parallels between the states of Uttarakhand and Jharkhand with Meghalaya, highlighting the rich tapestry of shared similarities that binds them together.

Dr B D R Tiwari, in his address, delved into the historical tapestry of Uttarakhand and Jharkhand, while also shedding light on their remarkable strengths and achievements.

The evening’s cultural extravaganza featured a Hindi song rendition by the renowned singer, Antara Choudhury, and a captivating performance of drums by a group of Khasi ladies.

Earlier, the Foundation Day message of the Honorable Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd.), was screened for the audience.

The program was organized by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Shillong in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture, Government of Meghalaya.
