Shillong, February 04: Power Minister A.T. Mondal on Tuesday said that with the state’s electricity demand growing at 11% annually, the government is actively planning new power generation projects and has notified a new power policy.
Speaking with the Media, AT Mondal said that the state is also inviting private producers to invest in order to ensure the availability of affordable energy locally.
The government is encouraging private producers to invest in power generation allowing projects to start from a capacity of 1 megawatt and scale up as needed, for Hydro power projects the state will receive 12% free power along with an additional 1% allocated for the local areas development.
With several MOU already under consideration and multiple groups showing interest, the Power Ministers stated that the government is exploring all possible avenues to prevent future power shortages.
He also added that the basic idea is to have investment maybe from 1 megawatt till whatever the capacity is there. He also informed us that today’s rate has grown by around 11%. On that basis the government should make sure that the state doesn’t face so much scarcity of power.
