Shillong, February 26: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya Mr. Conrad K Sangma today made a statement on the floor of the house, where the Shillong Bar Association building Shillong established since 1903 that was gutted with fire destroyed the entire building on Saturday night.
The Chief Minister in his statement stated that the statement is made on the preliminary report made by the Inspector General of Police incharge fire and emergency services, an information was received from the police control room at 22.15 hours dated 24/2/2024 to the effect that fire broke up at the Shillong Bar Association behind the DC office of East Khasi Hills District Shillong.
The first respondent to the incident was from the Bara Bazar Fire Station was activate at 22. 16 hours subsequently the second turnout was at 22.20 hours respectively, on reaching the place of occurrence the entire building was engulf by fire, as such others fire station was sought four.
On the arrival of the IGP FNES Meghalaya Shillong urgent assessment of the situation as the fire is huge in nature and post a thread to the surrounding building like the CJM Court, PHQ Engineering office and old MPRO Building.

As preliminary investigation the cause of the fire incident on the Shillong Bar Association is of the electrical origin, as per the peon of this Shillong Bar Association who saw electrical wire ring who found to be melting and hugging, however negligence from the part of the occupant cannot be rule out, in the incident no casualty or injury were reported in the fire incident.
The damages to the content and properties and the actual cause of fire will be access during the investigation of fire which is conducted today the 26/2/2024 and the detail report will be submitted accordingly to the state government, the District Magistrate East Khasi Hills District has also order magisterial inquiry into the fire incident.
He, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya the Deputy Chief Minister incharge urban affair, Chief Secretary the IGP incharge fire service station, Deputy Commissioner of the District and Superintendent of Police East Khasi Hills were rushed to the police of incident.
