Purno A Sangma to file nomination on March 21 from 2-Tura parliamentary

Tura, March 13: The National People’s Party (NPP) today officially chalked out its campaign strategy for the upcoming April 9 Lok Sabha polls.

The meeting was presided by sitting MP from Tura, Agatha Sangma, who has recently joined NPP to pave way for his father Purno Sangma, who is the nominee for the Tura seat.

Former Meghalaya finance minister, Conrad Sangma, who lost the last assembly election and former Rajya Sabha MP, Thomas Sangma were the key party leaders, who held several rounds of meeting with NPP leaders and workers at the residence of Purno Sangma.

The campaign for the Lok Sabha election has been ongoing for the last several months. However, today the party decided on the key issues, which will be highlighted in the run-up to the polls.

Purno Sangma, who is currently in New Delhi will arrive here on March 20 and is likely to file nomination on March 21.

Conrad Sangma said, “NPP’s top priority will be the law and order breakdown and utter chaos in Garo hills. We will also hit the government for its weak policies and lack of development vis-a-vis concentration of selected areas for welfare activities. We are committed for the people and the election will prove that we stand for the cause of the people”.

Politicians from Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan will also tour Garo hills seeking support for Purno Sangma.

Purno’s opponent is likely to be Congress candidate Daryl William Momin, 27, grandson of first chief minister of Meghalaya, Williamson Sangma. Though All India Congress Committee (AICC) has cleared name of Zenith Sangma in the list released last week, Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma and Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee President, D D Lapang has come on record saying Daryl William is the official Congress nominee for Tura.(SP News)
