Railway Protection Force of N. F. Railway recovered contraband apprehended 93 persons

Maligaon, Nov 20: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway detected 272 cases and recovered various contraband and smuggled goods worth more than Rs. 8.76 crore from January to October this year.

The Contraband and smuggled goods were recovered during regular checks and drives over N. F. Railway. RPF apprehended 93 persons for alleged involvement in transportation of contraband items.

The RPF of N. F. Railway detected several cases of contraband goods including transportation of ganja through trains during last few days. RPF recovered ganja worth about Rs. 6 lakh and apprehended one person for alleged involvement in transportation of contraband during 10th to 17th November, 2021.

In one such incident on 17th November, 2021 RPF train escort party while performing duty in train No. 02503 DN (Dibrugarh –New Delhi Rajdhani Express) recovered 02 unclaimed air bags containing 03 packets ganja, weighing about 25 kgs.

On arrival of the said train at Guwahati Railway station, RPF/Post/Guwahati seized the recovered ganja worth about Rs. 2.50 lakh. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to OC/GRPS/Guwahati for further necessary action.

In another incident on 15th November, CPDS team of Alipurduar conducted checking in the train No. 01666 DN (Agartala – Habibganj Express) at New Coochbehar railway station.

During checking, they apprehended one person resident of Vill- Fulkia, Dist. Purnia (Bihar) and recovered 04 packets ganja weighing about 08 kgs, valued about Rs. 80 thousand. Later, the apprehended person along with the recovered/seized ganja was handed over to OC/GRP/New Coochbehar for further legal action.

Moreover, on 10th November, RPF team of New Jalpaiguri while checking in train No. 02407 DN (New Jalpaiguri – Amritsar Special) at New Jalpaiguri railway station recovered 08 packets ganja weighing total 16 kgs and valued about Rs. 1.60 lakh.

Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to OC/GRPS/New Jalpaiguri for further legal action. On that day, CPDS team of Alipurduar conducted drive in train No. 05960 DN (Kamrup Express) and recovered 10 packets unclaimed ganja weighing total 11.60 kgs. Later, the recovered and seized ganja valued about Rs. 1.10 lakh was handed over to OC/GRPS/Alipurduar Junction for further legal action.
