Ampati, July 27: As part of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan (Save the Farm Campaign) launched by the Government of India, the District Agriculture Office, South West Garo Hills, in collaboration with the District Horticulture Office and the Project Director, ATMA, South West Garo Hills, successfully implemented the month-long campaign across the district from June 1 to June 30, 2026.
The campaign covered 10 villages across South West Garo Hills and directly reached 413 farmers through a series of awareness programmes, training sessions and field demonstrations aimed at promoting sustainable and scientific agricultural practices.
The initiative focused on encouraging the balanced and judicious use of fertilizers and other agricultural inputs based on soil testing, promoting Natural Farming, and improving Soil Health Management. Special emphasis was laid on reducing the indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers through farmer awareness programmes and practical demonstrations.
As part of the campaign, farmers were trained on the preparation and use of green manure, organic manure, Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) practices, and the proper application of fertilizers and other agricultural inputs to enhance soil fertility while ensuring long-term environmental sustainability.
Officials highlighted that healthy soil is the foundation of sustainable agriculture and improved farm productivity. They urged farmers to adopt soil test-based nutrient management and environmentally friendly farming practices to maintain soil health, reduce input costs and improve crop yields.
The successful implementation of the campaign reflects the commitment of the Agriculture and allied departments in South West Garo Hills towards promoting climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture while equipping farmers with scientific knowledge and best practices for long-term agricultural development.
