Shillong, Sept 06: In recognition of the contribution of teachers towards shaping the future of the nation, the State Government today celebrated the 60th State Level Teachers’ Day in a function held at the Auditorium Hall, Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides State Headquarters, Shillong. Shri. L Rymbui, Meghalaya Education Minister, graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

Addressing the gathering, Shri. L Rymbui lauded the dedication of the teaching community of the state particularly during the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, where teachers played a tremendous role in reaching out to the students.

Adding that it was not easy for teachers in transforming from classroom teaching to online teaching, yet with their hard work they were able to overcome all these hardships in providing the best services to the students.

Acknowledging that teachers face numerous other challenges such as pay disparity and untimely disbursement of salary, Shri Rymbui reiterated the Government’s commitment and continuous effort in addressing these issues.

Shri L. Rymbui also stressed on the need for teachers to come up with various innovative methods for holistic development of the students. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, students have been on the receiving end which severely hampered their educational development.

The education received inside the classroom is totally different from the education received through online mode, hence it is the role of the teachers to mould the students once again in developing their overall growth, he added.

During the day, State awards were conferred to 13 teachers, namely: Smti. T. Swer, Vice Principal, Laban Assamese Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Shillong. Shri. L. S. Syiemlieh, Head Teacher, Raid Ryngi Government L.P School, Iewrynghep. Smti. M. Kharsyntiew, Head Teacher, Khliehmawlieh, Government L.P School, Nongstoin.

Shri. J. Kharsyiemlieh, Head Teacher, Nongmyllam Government L.P School, Mawkyrwat. Smti. B. Lyngdoh, Vice Principal, Jowai Public School. Smti. M.B Dkhar, Assistant Teacher, Tluh Secondary School, Khliehriat. Shri. M Singh, Assistant Teacher, Alpha English Higher Secondary School, Nongpoh. Shri. A.S Marak, Assistant Teacher, Bolkinggre Deficit U.P School, Williamnagar.

Shri. F.K Sangma, Principal, Bajengdoba Higher Secondary School, Resubelpara. Smti. L. Ch. Marak, Assistant Teacher, Dadenggre Puri Government Higher Secondary School, Tura.

Shri. H.M Sangma, Assistant Teacher, Rongkhon Government L.P School, Tura. Shri. B.A Sangma, Principal, Garobadha Higher Secondary School, Ampati and Shri. S.C Marak, Headmaster, Kapasipara Deficit U.P School, Baghmara.

The District awards were also conferred upon Smti. L.J Syiem, Assistant Teacher, St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong for the Secondary Section. Shri. E. Kshiar, Headmaster, Nongryngkoh Presbyterian U.P School, Nongryngkoh for the Upper Primary Section and Smti. A.V Warjri, Head Teacher, Cherra Presbyterian L.P School, Nongsawlia, Sohra for the Lower Primary Section.

Special Award (Inclusive School) was given to Smti. M.E Khongwir, Teacher, Jyoti Sroat School, Shillong. Best Scoutmaster award was given to Shri. S. Chhetri, Gorkha Patshala Higher Secondary School, Shillong while the Best Guide Captain was awarded to Smti. A. Sohtun, Laitumkhrah Assamese Secondary School, Shillong.

Awards for Schools under Meghalaya School Improvement Programme were also awarded under 3 categories. The award for Implementation of School Improvement plan was given to Umroi Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Ri Bhoi District, Garo Union Higher Secondary School, West Garo Hills District and Mawngap District Christian Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, East Khasi Hills District.

The award for Best Performance District Resource Groups (DRGs) was given to East Khasi Hills District, West Jaintia Hills District and West Garo Hills District.

The award for Best Innovative Measures for Continuous Learning during the lockdown period was given to Alpha English H.S School, Ri Bhoi District, St. Xavier’s H.S School, West Garo Hills District and Holy Cross H.S School, Mawkynrew, East Khasi Hills District.

The programme was also attended by Shri. R. Rapthap, Secretary Education Department and Shri. A. Ch. Marak, Director of School Education & Literacy, Meghalaya, among others.
