Shillong, January 26: In the 68th Republic Day celebration to today at Paolo, the marching Contingents led by Major Mohit Khare from Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong and Second in Command Inspector, R.S. Bordoloi includes Assam Regimental Centre, Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Assam Police, District Executive Force, Meghalaya Police, NCC, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Indian Red Cross (Junior Wing), Army Public School, Happy Valley, 58 GTC Boys Sports Company and the combine brass band of Border Wing Home Guards and Border Security Force.
In the Tableau Presentation, Social Welfare, Soil and Water Conservation, Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Promotion Programme, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, District Election Office, District Rural Development Agency, PHE, Horticulture, Forest and Environment and Agriculture Departments were participated and in this completion the first prize bagged by Horticulture, Second prize by Social Welfare and third prize goes to Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Departments.
The Meghalaya Day Awards for the year 2017 were handed over by the Chief Minister to the awardees, U Tirot Sing Award for Arts and Literature was given to Mr Sumar Sing Sawian, Pa Togan Sangma Award for Social Services given to Mr Leander K.Marak and U Kiang Nangbah Award for excellence in Sports, was given to Smti Dolyne Kharbhih.
The Kayakalp Award for best Health facilities in East Khasi Hills District was awarded to Mawphlang PHC as best PHC and Commendation Award to Pomlum PHC were also distributed during the day.
Appreciation Award, an initiative of East Khasi Hills District Administration in recognition to individuals who have been exemplary in their services outside their given professions was awarded to Inspector Dharmendra Kumar Prasad, Officer i/c Sadar Thana, Shillong, Pastor Reuben G. Laloo, Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Church and Smti Waramai Kharkongor, Teacher, Pine Mount School, Shillong.
During the celebration announcement was made for the Governors Police Award, Police Medal for Meritorious Service and Award of the Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Meritorious Service 2017.

The Police Medal for Meritorious Service were awarded to, Shri Khek Lyngdoh, Havildar, Special Force-10 (SF-10) Meghalaya, Shri Jonas Maring, Havildar, Special Force-10 (SF-10) Meghalaya and Shri Robin Makri, Havildar, 1st MLP Bn. Meghalaya.
Award of Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Meritorious Service gose to, Shri Detrick Diengdoh, Havildar, Meghalaya Secretariat Home Guards, Shillong and Shri Hendro Shabong, Havildar, Meghalaya Secretariat Home Guards, Shillong
Others highlight of the day includes cultural programmes, District Level Senior Football One Day Tournament comprising teams from 8 C&RD Blocks, fishing competition at Ward’s Lake, Shillong, painting competition for children at Lady Hydari Park, Shillong, free cinema show in all cinema halls for children, entertainment for children and food court at Polo Parking Lot, Shillong.
