Mr. Kropha, stressed on the need to covert greenery of the State into an asset

Shillong, May 05: A one day workshop on Green Economy Initiative, organised by the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA), was held today at the State Convention Centre, Shillong wherein the Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Shri K. S. Kropha graced the inaugural programme as Chief Guest.

Principal Secretary, Planning etc. and CEO, MBDA, Shri R. M. Mishra, PCCF, Forest & Environment Department, Shri C. P. Marak, Deputy CEO, MBDA, Shri S. Sahai, OSD, INR, MBDA, Shri L. Shabong and Director, MBDA, Shri A. B. S. Swer among others were also present during the inaugural programme. The workshop saw the active participation of entrepreneurs and farmers from all the Districts of the State.

Shri K. S. Kropha in his inaugural address, stressed on the need to have a better mechanism in converting the greenery of the State into an asset for a sustainable livelihood. While lamenting on the fact that most of the natural resources are in abundance in the State but is left untapped and unexplored, the Chief Guest said that whatever the causes are, these can be well addressed by the community at large.

He and added that as far as green economy is concerned what we need to look into more seriously is in the context of economy, how by overcoming the challenges we can exploit the abundance and make it more favourable for the economic growth of the State. He also urged upon the participants to make efforts in uplifting the initiative of preserving the natural resources of the State.

The inaugural programme was followed by a technical session on topics namely; “Water Security for the Village”, “Catchment Area Protection” and “Green Economy for Sustainable Livelihood”
