Shillong, Feb 22: The Director General of Assam Rifles, Lt General Mr Sukhdeep Sangwan AVSM, SM today have honoured the International Athelete and Padma Shri cum Arjuna Awardee Dipa Karmakar along with other budding athletes, Sportspersons and Coaches of Tripura at a special ceremony in the presence of IGAR(E), Major General GAV Reddy and DIG Tripura Sect, Brig AK Sharma.
The General Officer complimented these players for motivating the Youth in adopting Sport as “a way of life.” He assured the players of the Assam Rifles’s commitment towards promoting the sport have proven as well as the promising talent in sports in the North East.
The General also apprised them of the Assam Rifles Public Shillong being recognised by the Govt of India as a Sports School in the lines of Sports School Rai Sonepat in Haryana.The school will promote sports and will get funds under the Khelo India Scheme of the Government of India.
