Shillong, September 28, 2016: The District Disaster Management Authority, Mawkyrwat has recently organized a two-day Training cum Mock drill on Search and Rescue and First Aid followed by a Mock Drill on earthquake at Presbyterian Secondary School, Saitsnad, Mawlangwir, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat.
The training was provided with a view to create awareness as well as to keep the teachers and students aware of the eventualities that might arise due to natural calamities and to make them prepared in the event of unforeseen disaster. The programme is part of preparedness and safety measures under Disaster Management Plan and through such training and demonstration it is hoped that teachers and students community would be informed of the precautionary measures that they ought to take in the event of such disaster and to translate into prompt action and take appropriate response in times of emergencies in order to mitigate, minimize and alleviate the suffering of the people.
During the Training cum Mock Drill, training facilities on Search and Rescue Operations, First Aid Treatment to the wounded and the like was imparted to the students by Smti D. L. Kharkongor, Assistant District Project Officer, District Disaster Management Authority, Mawkyrwat and Smti L. Syiemlieh, Assistant Deputy Controller ,Civil Defence & Home Guards.
