Shillong, February 03: The District Magistrate, Ri Bhoi District, has imposed Section 144 CrPC prohibiting the carrying of arms and other lethal weapons by members of the public. This has been done in view that carrying of arms and other lethal weapons and any other activities by some members of the public is likely to lead to the commission of mischief, intimidation, threat and arbitrary curtailment of the liberty of an individual to exercise his or her right of franchise and that may vitiate to the smooth, free and fair conduct of elections in the district. Furthermore, it is notified that all the licensed weapon holders within the District must deposit their weapons in the nearby Police Station within 14 days of promulgation of this order.
