Shillong, October 08: Shillong has always been synonymous with fashion. People here are known to dress and accessorize smartly, and sport the coolest hairstyles. The star of the fashion industry is in the ascent. Unlike a decade ago, Shillong is now home to most of the popular clothing brands available elsewhere. Local designers have successfully created their name at the national as well as international level.
The Shillong Fashion Week and the North East India Fashion Week are popular events which have given exposure to budding talent from the region. The designers from Shillong are recreating traditional designs to have mass appeal. Ethnic concepts and ideas are being merged with modern trends so that everyone can relate to it.
An organization called The Fashion Trunk has come up with an innovative concept of organizing exhibitions where they will bring together designers and exhibitors from various cities and shoppers under one roof.
The Fashion Trunk will showcase not just clothes but also jewelers, home decor items and other festive season goods. The Fashion Trunk is the brainchild of two fashion-loving young ladies from Shillong, Nancy Singhania and Sheetal Jasrasaria who’ve spent the better part of their lives indulging in shopping. “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak. We wish to help people find their own perfect style by making available various options to them”, says one of the organizers. With the festive season approaching, the time seemed right for The Fashion Trunk to present their first Fashion & Lifestyle Exhibition on Friday, 14th October 2016 at All Saint’s Cathedral Hall.
The popular designer’s like Anshu Modi from Kolkata, Zubhe from Guwahati and La Creme from Kashmir are participating in the exhibition as they were aware that Shillong is the fashion hub of Northeast.
Daniel Syiem, a renowned fashion designer from Shillong, will be inaugurating the event. Daniel has won the North-East Best designer Award, showcased in Lakme Fashion Week 2013 and has even marked his presence internationally in the London Fashion Week 2015. Let’s hope Shillongites enjoy this event to the fullest and shop till they drop.
