Shillong, June 15: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council today submits the memorandum to the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, urging the state government to take step immediately to stop the construction of the Railway Line in Ri Bhoi District.The organization make it clear that they are against any kinds of Railways Projects in Khasi-Jaintia Hills.This decision was taken by the Central Executive Committee.
The HYC pointed out that till date they have witness that this Government under your Leadership as a Chief Minister are not serious enough in solving the issue of influx of immigrants into the date and in fact your Government is completely ignore the important issue of safe guarding the Meghalaya Indigenous Peoples’ Right Interest. In our opinion Railways will only bring more immigrants to the Hynniewtrep land which is unwanted.
The HYC in their memorandum made their stand clear that until and unless the Government Legislate and Implements Laws and Regulation like the Inner Line Permits System and others to combat influx into the state and until and unless the Government show seriousness in safe regarding the Indigenous Peoples’ Right and Interest the HYC will always oppose any railways projects in Khasi-Jaintia Hills.
In this Regards the organisation demand from the state government to take step immediately to stop the ongoing Railways Construction at Byrni, Ri Bhoi District. The memorandum was sign by the president Mr Peter J Lawai and its general secretary of the HYC Mr Robertjune Khar Jahrin
