The Meghalaya State Veterinary Council observed the World Veterinary Day

Shillong, April 27: The Meghalaya State Veterinary Council in Shillong marked World Veterinary Day at the Directorate A.H & Veterinary Shillong. The theme, “Veterinarians are Essential Health Workers,” was central to the event.

Meghalaya’s Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Minister, Shri A.L Hek, along with Smt. R. M. Kurbah, IAS, Secretary of the Animal Husbandry and  Veterinary Department, and other officials.

Smt. R. M. Kurbah, in her address, emphasized the often-overlooked role of the veterinary department in public health policies. She stressed the importance of collaboration between the health and veterinary departments to address preventive and curative aspects of diseases. Kurbah advocated for a shift towards prevention rather than cure, echoing successful approaches adopted in the health sector.

Furthermore, Kurbah suggested leveraging social media platforms like Instagram to raise awareness about hygiene and veterinary-related issues among the public.

Minister A.L Hek commended the department’s efforts in ensuring public health through the distribution of veterinary products. He emphasized the importance of sincerity and responsibility in sustaining the department’s operations and advocated for building a strong brand image for the veterinary department.

Hek highlighted the potential of the department in creating employment opportunities for the state, emphasizing the need for diligent and effective work practices.
