The MHRC seeks report from Government on electrocution incident at Umsalait

Shillong, March 11: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC), Shillong has taken suo motu cognizance of the tragic death of Ripynskhem Papeng aged 9 years and his brother Arbaban aged 2 years.

After they reportedly came into contact with a high tension live wire outside their house at Umsalait village, West Jaintia Hills District on 10th March, 2021 and has directed the Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, to have the matter enquired into and submit a detailed report to the Commission within one month.

The Commission reminded the State of its obligation under Article 21 of the Constitution of India to protect and safeguard the Right of Life of individuals within the State.
