The NESFAS to host Agroecological session along with Odisha-based NGO in Shillong

Shillong, Oct 14: Living Farms, an Odisha-based NGO, who are working towards promoting nutrition sensitive agriculture among the Indigenous tribal communities of Odisha are currently visiting NESFAS from October 14 to October 19, 2019. Their objective for this visit is to learn and exchange ideas and explore possibilities for future partnership and collaboration.

As part of the exposure visit, the group will be visiting three partner communities, Nongtraw, Khweng, Rapleng. “During these field trips, they will get an opportunity to understand the lifestyle and agriculture systems of indigenous farmers of Meghalaya,” Pius Ranee, senior associate at NESFAS, said.

NESFAS on Thursday (October 17, 2019) will facilitate a special session for the 13 Living Farm staff and members of the three mentioned communities at KJP Assembly Conference Centre, Lachumiere. The main objective of the session is to share results of the best agroecological practices, in relation to pest and soil management.

On the other hand, on October 2, 2019, NESFAS received certificates from the Participatory Guarantee Systems Organic Council (India) of 20 Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) groups, who are also partner communities of NESFAS. JanakJassal, Senior Associate of NESFAS, will brief the guests and audience about the PGS and handover the certificates to community members from East Khasi Hills, West Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills.
