The passing out parade of the 55th basic courses of Police officers from NEPA in R.B District

Shillong, Dec 22: The Passing Out Parade of 55th Batch Basic Course trainees, held at the North Eastern Police  Academy on December 22, 2025, was reviewed by Smt. Idashisha Nongrang, IPS, Director General  of Police, Meghalaya as the Chief Guest. A total of 68 trainees passed out.

The 55th Basic Course comprised 42 Deputy Superintendents of Police (Probationers), 01 Cadet  Inspector and 25 Cadet Sub-Inspectors/Asstt Sub-Inspectors. It is pertinent to mention that among the  trainee officers 15 are from Meghalaya, 05 from Manipur, 24 from Nagaland, 10 from Tripura and 14  from Sikkim.

Out of 68 trainees, 21 were lady officers in this batch.  Since its inception in 1978, NEPA has been conducting basic courses in every year for the  newly appointed Deputy Superintendents of Police (Probationers) and Cadet Sub-Inspectors/Asstt  Sub-Inspectors of eight North Eastern States and till date 1043 Deputy Superintendents of Police and  4221 Sub-Inspectors have been trained and passed out.

The 55th Basic Course batch started on 6th January, 2025. These trainees underwent a very well  researched and planned basic training for the period of 50 weeks.

As per basic training module these  trainees were trained in indoor subjects viz Police Science, Legal Studies and Social Science and in  the outdoor, training was imparted on Drill, Weapons Training, Physical Efficiency, Police Operations  and Tactics. Specialised inputs were given on Disaster Management, First Aids and Motor Vehicle  Driving.

A short module on Jungle Camp was also organised where they carried out Cordon and Search  Operations, Ambush and Counter Ambush, Raid, seizure etc. The trainees have been imparted with  essential skills, knowledge and required aptitude to deliver their best once they join active service.

In  a bid to build a well-rounded personality and promote camaraderie, team spirit and sportsmanship, the  trainees were encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities through various clubs like  Extempore and Debate club, Photography ClubQuiz Club, Sports Club, Social Service Club, Literary  Club and IT Club.

They enthusiastically took part in various club activities.  Besides successful completion of Basic training, the trainees of 55th Basic Course also have  participated in Post Graduate Diploma in “Police Administration and Investigation” from Sardar Patel University of Police, Security and Criminal Justice, Jodhpur.

NEPA is a full-fledged premier police training institution of the Ministry of Home affairs. Apart  from the basic courses, the Academy also conducts a large number of In-service courses for officers  from across the country including the officers of Armed forces, Central Armed Police Forces,  Judiciary, Prisons besides State Police Departments.

NEPA is doing a remarkable service in bringing  cohesiveness, professionalism, co-operation and uniformity among the State police forces of the  Region. Today, the Academy is looked upon as a Premier Police Training Institution of the Country.

The Academy also trains police officers from neighbouring Countries  like  Bangladesh, Myanmar and  Bhutan. Over a period of time, the Academy has created all required infrastructure and imparting training with the use of latest gadgets and techniques.

NEPA had been awarded with the Union Home  Minister’s Trophy for excellence in Police Training in the country in the year 2015-16 (for Gazetted  and non-gazetted officers) and in the year 2021-22 (for non-gazetted officers). The Academy has been  accredited with “UTKRISHT” organization by Capacity Building Commission and National  Accreditation Board for Education and Training of Govt. of India.

Smt. Idashisha Nongrang, IPS, Director General of Police, Meghalaya being the Chief Guest  congratulated the young officers for displaying excellent parade and handed over the Trophies  and Medals to the trainees for their individual performance during the training period.

As an integral part  of the programme Ms. Kavita Jalan, IPS, Director, NEPA had administered the oath to the trainee  police officers for their service to the nation. After the parade was peeled off, the band personnel of  NEPA and BSF, Shillong Unit, performed display.

The entire parade was led by Shri Dipendra  Adhikari, DySP (P), Sikkim Police Service being the Parade Commander and Shri Tengchak K  Sangma, DySP (P), Meghalaya Police Service.

The parade was consisting of 03 platoons whereof Shri  Raksan Momin, DySP (P), Meghalaya Police Service, Shri Geroge Pasi, DySP (P), Meghalaya Police  Service and Shri Velhukhoyi Nyekha, Cadet Sub-Inspector, Nagaland Police, were the Platoon  Commanders respectively.
