The President of HITO sent complaint to DGP against  the SP of East Khasi Hills District

Shillong, June 10: The President of the Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) Mr. Donbok Dkhar and Vice President  Mr. Shaniah Nongrum whois also legal secretary of the organisation has jointly sing the complain letter sent to the Director General of Police Smti. Idashisha Nongrang against the SP of East Khasi Hills District.

In the letter  HITO request draw the attention of the SP against the recent actions committed by the SP of the East Khasi Hills District who, in the dead of night, went accompanied by several police personnel to forcefully remove Kong Bindas Syiem, who is undergoing a hunger strike against the delay in the repair of the Nongpoh- Umden-Sonapur road, near the Secretariat building.

The organisation alleged that the actions of the SP is a blatant disregard of the rights of the people to assemble peacefully in protest, which is protected and enshrined under Article 19(1) (b) of the Indian Constitution.

It is also noted that according to several witnesses who were present in the area, the SP was allegedly intoxicated during the incident, which has brought to the table many questions about the SP’s credibility and professionalism.

Such incidents and actions have led to public mistrust of the police force, which has put a stain on the name of the police department. They  request  the DGP to look into the issue to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future and that action be taken against the SP(EKHD) and the other offenders immediately.
