Maligaon, June 26: Continuing its drive against human trafficking, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) rescued good numbers of children and women from various stations and trains over NFR during last few days.
In such incidents on 22nd and 23rd June 2021, RPF officials of Tinsukia division conducted drives against anti-social elements at New Tinsukia and Dibrugarh Railway Stations.
During the drives, the RPF teams rescued three minor boys- one from New Tinsukia and two others from Dibrugarh Railway Stations. After enquiry, rescued boys were handed over to concerned Childline for their safe custody and further course of action.
On 20th June 2021, ‘Meri Saheli’ team of RPF Post/New Coochbehar rescued one mentally retarded woman from Train No. 05955 DN (Kamakhya – Delhi special). After that one person attended at RPF Post and New Coochbehar and disclosed his identity as husband of rescued woman. After proper verification, the rescued woman has been handed over to his husband.
On 18th June 2021, Meri Saheli Team of Rangiya, while checking in train No. 02508 DN (Silchar – Trivandrum special) at Rangiya station, apprehended one male kidnapper, a resident of Kozikode, Kerala and rescued one woman and her minor daughter. Later, the rescued persons were handed over to OC/GRP/Rangiya for further action.
Again on 18th June 2021, while RPF team of New Alipurduar Post was checking at New Alipurduar station, rescued one runaway minor girl. The girl fled away from home to meet her boyfriend. Matter was informed to his parents over phone. Later, the rescued girl was handed over to Childline/Alipurduar Junction (West Bengal) for safe custody and further course of action.
It is worth mentioning that RPF of N. F. Railway successfully rescued as many as 403 children and women from trains and stations during January, 2020 to May, 2021. There were 311 minor children aged below 18 years, 57 boys and girls aged above 18 years and 35 women among the rescued persons.
