The Road should stop because it lead to Uranium Mining claim LYWA

SHILLONG, July 116:: The Langrin Youth Welfare Association (LYWA) on Friday in press conference has expressed strong opposition to the tender notice floated by Uranium Corporation of India (UCIL). The Association has also demanded the state government and KHADC to take immediate action against the company.

B.S. Lyngdoh, president of LYWA said the association demands the state government to immediately stop road project as it will bring no benefit to the people and prove fatal to human lives and the environment.

“The reason we are demanding for this road project to be stopped is because this project is to facilitate uranium mining especially since there is uranium at Mawthabah,” he said.

Secretary of the association A.S. Lyngdoh said, the government should not grant any NOC to the UCIL instead take strong action against the Director and Managing Director for floating the tender notice.

“The state Government should set aside the tender notice at the same time stop and immediately cancel the two-lane road phase A of Special Accelerated Road Development Programme-North East (SARDP-NE) : Nongstoin-Wahkaji to Mawthabah, Nongstoin-Rambrai to Chaigoan, Mawthabah-Phlangdiloin to Ranikor, Ranikor-Maheshkola to Baghmara to facilitate uranium mining in the state,” A. S Lyngdoh added.

The association also demanded the cancellation of all proposed activities of the UCIL at Phodkylleng Pyndensohiong Mawthabah.

Lyngdoh informed that the association has also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of the State that they have expressed their opposition to the Expression of Interest by UCIL and stated they will submit the same memorandum to the CEM KHADC.
