The SPICMACAY organised an Indian Classical Dance Performance in Shillong

Shillong, March 11: The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY), Meghalaya chapter with an intention to enrich the quality of formal education by increasing awareness about different aspects of Indian heritage and inspiring the young mind to imbibe the values embedded in it organised an Indian Classical Dance Performance (Odissi) in ten different Government Schools in and around Shillong.

The programme was sponsored by the Ministry of Development of North East Region (DONER).

Speaking to media persons, Co Chairperson PK Swain said that the aim of the programme is to promote the Indian Classical music among youths

On the other hand, Geeta Mahalik said that she enjoyed performing in front of the students even as she said that the Society is organising the event to bring awareness about classical dance among the students.

The programme seeks to inspire youth through experiencing the mysticism embodied in the rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry of Indian and World Heritage, with a hope that the beauty, grace, values and wisdom embodied in these arts will influence their way of life and thinking and inspire one to become a better human being.

For this, the most accomplished artistes of the country render programmes of Indian classical music and dance, folk, poetry, theatre, traditional paintings, crafts & yog primarily in schools and colleges. The programmes of SPICMACAY are actively supported by Centre and various state governments.

It may be mentioned that the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY) is a voluntary movement founded in 1977 by Dr Kiran Seth, a Professor at IIT-Delhi who was awarded the ‘Padma Shri’ for his contribution to the arts in 2009.(SP News)
