Shillong, March 24: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Amlarem Civil Sub-Division has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting the public from washing clothes, utensils, vehicles, bathing and dumping of garbage in the water source of Amlarem Water Supply Scheme at Jarain.
The order is necessitated in view of the notice received that the water source of Amlarem Water Supply Scheme at Jarain is being polluted by various activities such as washing clothes, vehicles etc. and such pollution can pose a serious health hazard to human life by polluting the quality of drinking water. The order will come into force with immediate effect and remain until further orders.
In another order under Section 144 CrPC, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Amlarem Civil Sub-Division has prohibited plying of heavy vehicles in excess of 9 tonnes through bridges between Dawki-Muktapur road. The order is necessitated in view of the notice received that a number of heavily loaded vehicles are plying between Dawki-Muktapur road.
Considering the precarious condition of a number of bridges lying in the road, the plying of heavy vehicles will further deteriorate the condition of the bridges, endanger the lives of the citizens who commute through the bridges, create traffic jam on the narrow road, cause obstruction and annoyance to the general public and may result in disturbance of the public peace and tranquility unless immediately prevented. The order will come into force with immediate effect and will remain until further orders.
