The three days ‘Air Fest 2016’ of the India air force will begin on Friday

Shillong September 27: As part of Air Force Day Celebrations, “Headquarters Eastern Air Command” at Upper Shillong is planning an Air Force Festival called ‘AIR FEST 2016’ from 30th September to 2nd October. This year the fest is being held for one extra day specially to facilitate students and citizens of Shillong and Meghalaya to enjoy the fest and participate in the IAF celebrations. The festival is being conducted at the Shillong Advance Landing Ground (ALG) and is open to the public from 10 am to 4 pm on all the three days. It will showcase the ‘Spirit of Adventure’ which epitomizes the Indian Air Force.

Air Fest 2016 will start off with an air display at 11 am with a fly past by Mi-17 Helicopters and Su-30 MKI aircraft. This will be followed by the breath taking display of the Indian Air Force ‘Air Devils’ team which has carried out sky diving and free fall para jumps all over the world. There will also be a demonstration on Slithering Operations by ‘GARUD’, the elite commandos of the Indian Air Force. Aero modelling, Static Display of Aircraft and performance by the military band will be some other highlights of the festival.

IAF is setting up various stalls during the Festival which include IAF Publicity Stall, Souvenir Stall and relishing Food Stalls. The visitors may acquire detailed information about the Air Force from the publicity stall and purchase souvenirs.

The Air Fest is an endeavour to showcase the history, glory and spirit of adventure of IAF, and the challenging opportunities on offer. This year, the Air Fest is being held on three days instead of two days, specially to facilitate participation by students of Schools and Colleges on 30th September. On all days Entry is free and photography is permitted. All events as per programme will be held on all the three days.
