Three houses gutted with fire at Laban, IRC Society extended helping hand to affected families

Shillong, Jan 12: The Meghalaya Chapter of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRC) extended their helping hand to the displace family when a sudden fire displaced three families in minutes. The incident happened took place today at Masjid Road ,Krep Sing Swer Road Laban soon after the blaring morning office hour siren ended.

The fire was so sudden and furious that it overwhelmed three semi permanent dwellings inhabited by three families housing 11 persons in all. The affected include Rajkumar Rajak, Sangeetha Devi, Rohit Kumar Rajak, Neha Kumari and Neetu Kumari,Sukul Roy and Bahadur Kumar Sing and Raja Kumar, Methalesh Kumari, Rishi Kumar and Mukesh Kumar.

Though no one was injured in the fire which is believed to have emanated from one of the houses where something was cooking, yet the flames engulfed almost everything leaving the victims practically homeless.

Soon after hearing of this incident, IRC volunteers reached the affected location and immediately provide relief support so as to prevent further injury and damage till such time as the fire and emergency services teams arrived which did not take long from the time of the SOS call to 108.

To provide immediate relief, the IRC team also handed over a set of 16 utility items which included tarpaulins, blankets, kitchen utensils, bathroom wares and hygiene kits, pots and pans, plates and cups etc.

The Meghalaya Chapter of Indian Red Cross Society reiterates its commitment to serve society whenever called upon and urges all fellow citizens to work together for the betterment of all.

The Indian Red Cross Society also reminds each and everyone to remain ever vigilant against the ongoing pandemic. The solution is simple ‘Think safe, Behave safe, Stay safe’.
