To reduce Maternal Mortality Rate and Infant Mortality Rate PMSMA launched in the State

Shillong, September 21:To reduce Maternal Mortality Rate and Infant Mortality Rate in the country, the Government of India has launched a new initiative, the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), under the National Health Mission.

Through this programme, at least one Ante Natal check-up of a pregnant woman by a doctor/gynaecologist will be provided during the 2nd and 3rd trimester on the 9th of every month. The purpose of PMSMA is to ensure that quality ABNC is provided, referral, treatment, detection and follow up of high risk pregnancies and women having complications.

These services will be provided by Medical Officers and OBGY Specialists at all identified Government Health Facilities.

The Director of Health Services (MCH&FW) cum Joint Mission Director, Meghalaya has informed that in Meghalaya, PMSMA was launched on 9th July, 2016 and Mrs. Sweety Pala, renowned Khasi Film actress and mother is the official Brand Ambassador.
