Tura MP, Mr Conrad, included in the FICCI’s Forum of Parliamentarians heads to Japan visit

New Delhi, May 14:  FICCI’s India Japan Forum of Parliamentarians is leaving  to visit Japan from 14th to the 18th of this month. The delegation led by Smt Poonam Mahajan, Member of Parliament and Co-Chair, FICCI’s India-Japan Forum of Parliamentarians.  Mr Harshavardhan Neotia, Immediate Past President, FICCI and Chair of the Forum of Parliamentarians Council and Dr Jyotsna Suri, Past President, FICCI and Co-Chair of the Council and other senior industry representatives shall join the delegation.

India-Japan Forum of Parliamentarians was launched in April 2005 by, then Minister for External Affairs, Government of India. Dr. Ashwani Kumar was the first Chairman of the forum.  The mission of the Forum is to encourage and facilitate constructive communication between Parliamentarians of India and Japan.  It provides a platform to interact on topical issues which impacts India-Japan bilateral relations. The forum aims to bring together MPs from across party lines to understand and appreciate various aspects of the India Japan relationship through a dialogue with counterpart MPs, senior government officials, industry leaders, policy experts and media.

The Members of Parliament include Smt Poonam Mahajan, Member of Parliament (BJP) and Co-Chair of FICCI’s India-Japan Forum of Parliamentarians, Shri Deepender Singh Hooda, Member of Parliament (INC), Shri Prathap Simha, Member of Parliament (BJP), Shri Rabindra Kumar Jena, Member of Parliament (BJD) and Shri Conrad Sangma, Member of Parliament (NPP).

The delegation aims to intensify interactions with Japanese policy makers, industrialists and academia, building a valuable track two understanding of various aspects of the relationship.Dr. Jyotsna Suri, Co-Chair of FICCI Forum of Parliamentarians Council said, “This visit is aimed at enhancing the already excellent relations between India and Japan and fostering further dialogue between policy-makers from both countries. Accordingly, this dialogue has been structured to focus on the priority areas of cooperation as identified by both governments”.

The visit will cover Tokyo and Nagoya. The itinerary includes political call-ons, meeting with Japan India Parliamentary Friendship Group, several site visits including several manufacturing units and vehicle recycling projects. The sectors are areas of high focus with Japan where Japanese technology and models would be relevant for India’s plans in Make in India, renewable energy and clean tech.

The delegation would call on Ministers and government representatives in each destination. Interaction with policy makers, Members of Parliament and representatives of Japanese industry are also on the cards.

Highlighting the importance of this visit, Harshavardhan Neotia, Immediate  Past President, FICCI and Chair of FICCI’s Forum of Parliamentarians Council stated, “The India Japan relationship exists on sound fundamentals and the focus of this delegation’s visit would be to deliberate upon innovative ways of closer cooperation and to build upon the renewed enthusiasm of deeper and multifaceted cooperation between the two nations.”
