Mawkyrwat December 18: With a view to provide better health care to the people in the rural areas, the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) through the Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, Nongstoin organized a two day Health Mela on Monday and Theusday, at Ranikor Upper Primary school where thousands of people were benefited. The Deputy Chief Minister Mr Rowell Lyngdoh who is also in charge of Health and Family Welfare, inaugurated the Mela in presence of Mr M.M.Dango MLA and Mr M.Nongrem MDC.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function , the Deputy Chief Minister stated that the purpose of organizing this Health Mela is not just to give free medicines and treatment to the people, but it is also to make them aware about different types of diseases and how to be self responsible of caring about their own health. He therefore, called upon the people to take the opportunity of the health mela by availing free medical checkup for various sicknesses where specialist Doctors on different lines are available.
Mr Lyngdoh also expressed that the state Government through the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) was trying very hard to strengthen the health care services in our state by organizing different Health camps and Health Melas in rural areas. Further, he also urged upon the people to extend their cooperation with Government for the smooth implementation of various developmental schemes in the state.
The inaugural meeting was presided over by the Medical officer in charge Ranikor CHC Dr. J.J. Kharjana and among others who spoke on the occasion included the Additional District Medical and Health Officer, Nongstoin Dr. K.Lyngdoh, Dr W.Narry Medical and Health Officer Mawkyrwat CHC.
Later, Specialist Doctors from Shillong as well as from Nongstoin rendered medical check up to the different ages groups of people during these two days Health Mela.(SP News)
