UDP candidate in Meghalaya Paul Lyngdoh filed his nomination

 

Shillong, March 18: Flanked by supporters, Regional parties’ candidate Paul Lyngdoh filed his nomination paper in Shillong. Lyngdoh is a United Democratic Party Candidate which is supported by the regional parties in Meghalaya and also all across North east.  However, the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) and the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) have refused to support Lyngdoh.

Leaders like James K Sangma from NPP, Donkupar Roy the former Chief Minister, John Leslie Sangma and many other  accompanied Paul Lyngdoh till the DC office in Shillong. After filing his nomination papers, Paul exuded confidence that he will emerge victoriously in the ensuing polls due to the decline of the Congress party across the country.

“The Congress is headed towards the worst ever since Independence. I am sure that the people of the state will make a wise decision in electing me,” Lyngdoh told reporters after filing his nomination papers from Shillong parliamentary constituency.

Moreover, he said the UDP is the only party that could take on the Congress.

“The trend across the country is that the Congress is in the state of decline and people would reject it because of its misrule,” Lyngdoh said.

Lyngdoh also said that he is the only candidate belonging to the regional party that represents the hopes and aspirations of the peoples of the state and, therefore, is confident that the electorates will make him a winner in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections for the Shillong parliamentary seat.

“We are confident that the people will use their intelligence and be observant,” he said.

The Congress has fielded sitting MP Vincent H Pala while the Common People’s Front (CPF) who is supported by the Hill State People’s Democratic Party and Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movment has supported PBM Basaiawmoit. The Aam Admi Party (AAP) has also fielded a retired Indian Forest Service Amerington Kharshiing from Shillong parliamentary constituency. Meghalaya will go for polls on April 9. The last date for filing of nomination is on March 22 with the last date of withdrawal being March 26.(SP News)
