Under Section 126 of the R.P Aact, 1951 the R.O of 1-Shilong (ST) PC, imposed 144 CrPC

Shillong, April 17: Whereas, Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and Amendments thereof to impose the “Campaign Silence Period”, inter-alia, prohibits election campaign activities, public meetings, processions, etc, and displaying of election matter by means of television, print and electronic mnedia or any similar apparatus.

Now, therefore, “I, Shri. Sibhi Chakravarthy Sadhu, IAS, District Magistrate and Returning Officer, 1-Shillong (ST) Parliamentary Constituency in exercise of the powers conferred upon me under section 144 CrPC do hereby prohibit any sort of unlawful assemblies and holding of public meetings or any activities as stated thereof, including the use of Loudspeakers without taking due permission, during the period of 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the close of poll”.
