Shillong, December 16: The 45th Vijay Diwas was celebrated in Shillong on 16 Dec 2016. Vijay Diwas commemorates Indian Army’s Victory over Pakistan forces in 1971, culminating in the carving out of Bangladesh. 101 area played a pivotal role in the success of these operations and was the first formation of Indian Army to enter Dhaka on 16 Dec 1971. Lt Gen DS Ahuja, GOC 101 Area laid wreath at the magnificent war memorial at Shillong to commemorate, with reverence, the contribution of all brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice, in the line of duty. The General Officer was earlier received by Brig Sudhir Kumar Jha, YSM, Commandant, Assam Regimental Centre on arrival at the Centre.
