West Garo Hills District Adminstration held orientation programme for traders

 

Tura, March 05: The West Garo Hills district administration today held an Orientation Programme for the traders of Tura Super Market and adjoining areas on the Mega Mock Drill simulating an earthquake disaster that is going to be held on 10th March at the market premises. The orientation programme was held to create awareness on the Mega Mock Drill and to dispel any fear and misunderstanding during the drill.

Speaking about the Mega Mock Drill West Garo Hills, Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Pravin Bakshi informed that the exercise would simulate the earthquake of 1897. He stated that through such exercises people would be able to prepare themselves for any kind of emergency. “Effective disaster management reduces casualties” stated Mr.  Bakshi and informed that the role of the community was very important during any kind of disaster. He informed that the Tura Super Market was one of the two vulnerable structures in Tura and that the mock drill would assess the preparedness of the traders and the community during disaster like situations. He further informed that similar orientation programmes would be held at Rishipara on 6th March and  at Beldalpara on 7th March at 11am and 3pm respectively.

The orientation programme was attended by traders and community of Tura Super Market and the adjoining areas. Among others who spoke at the occasion was West Garo Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner Dikhi D Shira. (SP News)
