Shillong, October 14: The standoff between the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and the Hima Mylliem is not knew at all, many asked, what the KHADC has done for the development of Iewduh.
Many shopkeeper at Iewduh, express their views that both the KHADC and the Hima Mylliem the custodian of this traditional market are both responsible for the welfare of this biggest market in the state of Meghalaya, as the chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma rightly stated that “Iewduh ia like a rice bawl” for many in Khasi Hills Region.
Iewduh this year is fortunate enough has got the attention of the Chief Minister where he personally visited the market to get the first-hand knowledge what Iewduh is what can the government do since this market is under the custody of the Hima Mylliem and supervise by the KHADC.
Many shopkeepers said that, it is time that the state Government, the KHADC and the Hima Mylliem should put their head together and fine out ways and means how to pool resources to convert this market into a modern market with traditional outlook.
Without naming anybody one shop keeper said that rulers should brush aside their personal filing and trying to get political millage from this market. The Chief Minister has announce that fund will be place every year with the Deputy Commissioner for development work for the Iewduh, the KHADC also should follow suit and the hima Mylliem also.
