At the BJP rally in Polo, Prime Minister Mr Modi: we want transformation through transportation

Shillong, December  16: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said at the BJP rally in Polo, Shillong said that we wants transformation through transportation. The prime minister today dedicated the 261 km Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road that was constructed at the cost of Rs. 2300 cores to the Nation, this road project would boost the East-West corridor.

The PM Minister said the road would connect East and West Khasi Hills and East and West Garo Hills. Mr Modi said, would encourage activities between the different regions of the State and also reduce travel time between Shillong and Tura from 15 to 16 hours it will reduce the travel time to 8 hours.

The Prime Minister spell out clearly that “We want transformation through transportation” the central government want to deepen connectivity and reach out to every aspiring Indian. In this rally the prime minister said that the BJP Government doesn’t believe in stopping projects, but completing it, he said the Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura project was kept in the cold storage and was given the necessary impetus only in 2014.

The Prime minister stress on the importance accorded by the NDA Government towards development of the region, road projects totaling 4000km worth Rs. 3200 Cores has been sanctioned for the region in the past three years, out of which 1200 kms have been constructed.

The central government received proposals worth Rs. 90,000 crore in the road sector in the region for the next two years under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme-NE and Bharatmala project.

Coming specific to Meghalaya, the Prime Minister said that 80 km of National Highway project has been completed and work is on for another 200 kms. The National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation would undertake road project in the State worth Rs. 5700 crore.

The Prime Minister said that Meghalaya is now on the railway map of the Country after the inauguration of the Mendipathar-Guwahati railway line. The Prime Minister Mr  Modi said that in the past three years the centre has spent on an average Rs. 5300 core for development of rail network of the region annually, which is two and half times more than the spending of the UPA Government for this sector in the region.

On air connectivity, the PM said, a specific road map is being built to develop the air connectivity of the region and said connectivity between different cities of the region would be developed. Coming to Shillong Airport he said that Central Government has sanction Rs.180 cores to build up the run way so that air bus can land on this air port.

Mr Modi further also propagate the possibility of Seaplanes could be introduce in the northeast taking advantage of the waterways. Seaplanes are a good option for the region and we would explore the possibility of having such planes.
