Mairang, Nov 03: Continuing with the commemoration of Meghalaya’s 50 years of Statehood, the office of the Block Development Officer, Mawthadraishan C&RD Block in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society( MSRLS), the implementing agency of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM).
Today organized a Self Help Group (SHG) Mela cum Health Camp at the playground of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Nongkasen where Meghalaya Water Resources Minister and local MLA, Shri H.B Nongsiej attended as Chief Guest in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District, Shri H.K Thabah, Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge.
Mairang Civil Sub-Division, Shri A. Nongbri, Block Development Officer, Mawthadraishan C&RD Block, Shri W.B Marbaniang, State Project Manager, National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), Meghalaya Smti M. Kharmalki, officials representing various government departments, bank officials, traditional heads of the area, representatives of Village Organizations (VOs),SHG members and others.
During his address, Meghalaya Water Resources Minister, Shri H.B Nongsiej said that the presence of SHGs in the society has proved to be a blessing to the state even as he called upon SHG members present on the occasion to work together by way of mutual exchange of ideas, experiences and best practices in order to further promote the SHG movement in Mawthadraishan Block.
Stating that SHG members are torch bearers of their respective villages, Shri Nongsiej also encouraged others who are yet to be part of the SHG movement to participate in the movement as there are multiple opportunities for their socio-economic upliftment through formation of SHGs ad VOs.
The programme also featured awareness creation on financial inclusion by different departments and banking officials as also songs and dances performed by different VOs and SHGs of Mawthadraishan Block and awards were also distributed to best performing VOs and SHGs.
