Shillong, May 22: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) would like to put up this question in front of the Govenment of Meghalaya, “that whether it has conducted a COVID 19 test or not on the armed personnel such as the BSF and Army before entering the state of Meghalaya”?
The President of the JSU Shillong Circle , Mr. Treiborlang R Suchen, said that lately there is an information from the news report, that few BSF personnel were tested positive in the State of Tripura as reported by the media that were published on the 6th ,12th and 14th of May, 2020 respectively.
The Union would like to stress on the health safety of the people of the State and henceforth the JSU impelled the State Government to make it mandatory that armed personnel entering our State should mandatorily get themselves tested at different testing centers for a primary test of COVID 19 that has been place at the entry points of the state of Meghalaya.
The JSU President-SC, Treiborlang R Suchen stated that, he himself witnessed troops of army men were seen roaming around for the purpose of grocery goods at the public markets in these last few days in the city and he also opined that we never know,” What if they had gone shopping elsewhere in different districts of the state where their Headquarters and Camps are located?”.
The students’ leader further stated that, such kind of a scenerio is not safe and not healthy at all for the people of our state because till date our poeple are not fully aware, whether our armed forces who came from different units or camps of the country have really undergone COVID 19 test or not before entering the state.
Hence, the Union is extremely concerned with the prevailing situation and appeal strongly to the State Government to look after this matter with a responsibility and take a decisive action to ensure the health safety and security of its citizens.
