Shillong, January 09: Social activist Mr Michel Syiem today write to the Chief Electoral officer of Mehglaya Mr F R Kharkongor demanding from the election department to make all candidates who files his or her nomination paper to contest in the upcoming MLA Election in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
Speaking to media person in Shillong press Club, Mr Syriem said that from the site of the CEO Mr Kharkongor told him that since they are govern by the central rule he has to consult the law department.
Mr Syiem said that this will be the first test for the Meghalaya Compulsory Registration marriage act, in the act one of the clause mention that for all official purposes produce of Marriage certificate is required. Contesting election is an official purpose. Mr Syiem said that he will watch and see, if not he will approached the court.
