MLCU conducts Consumer Awareness Programme among the students

Shillong March 30: With the aim and objective to educate and spread awareness about the rights of a Consumer among the students of the university, the Department of Social Work, Martin Luther Christian University today organised an a campaign onConsumer Rights on the theme, “Emerging Digital Markets: Issues and Challenges in Consumer Protection” which is sponsored by the office of the Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya.

The Department during the campaign conducted a survey focusing on online shopping among consumers. The findings reflect that most consumers face challenges and lack awareness regarding online purchases.

In addition, an Essay and Speech Competitions were held earlier in the day relating to the theme. The students of the Department of Social Work also performed a short role play on the challenges and the unreliability of digital consumerism.

Speaking during the programme the Dean, Education Outreach, Dr (Ms) Iwamon WJ Laloo, spoke about the importance and need to educate ourselves with the laws and rights of the consumers. She added that with the onset and immediate rise of Digital Consumerism, knowledge and awareness about the market and its rules and regulations should be followed and also one has to be fully aware of the risks and also the rights of a digital consumer.
