Shillong, April 05: A conference cum workshop on Swachhta titled “Hygeia” was held at NEIGRIHMS today to observe Swachhta Pakhwada. The Conference cum workshop was attended by 150 delegates from 15 hospitals and 5 universities of Shillong.
The focus of the conference was on disseminating best practices in sanitation and hygiene to sanitation personnel and other health care workers. Around 15 stalls on various aspects of the theme were also displayed on the occasion.
The Hospitals from Shillong that participated in the workshop are, Bethany Hospital, Civil Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital, Jaiaw, Ganesh Das Hosital, Lawmali, Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health and Neurological Science (MIMHANS), Nazareth Hospital, Pasteur Insitute, Reid Provincial Chest Hospital, Supercare Hospital, Diengpasoh Primary Health Centre, Mawpat Urban Primary Health Centre, NEHU Health Centre, Tynring Sub centreand Mawpdang Sub-Centre.
Around 90 students from North Eastern Hill University, William Carrey University, Martin Luther Christian University, Women’s College and NEIGRIHMS performed skits and street plays on the theme of cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene in community.
The workshop included topics on hand hygiene, cleaning tools, cleaning methods and protocols, automation in cleaning, Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules 2016, transmission based precautions, cough etiquette, needle stick injuries and its prophylaxis.A guest lecture on best housekeeping practices in hospitals was also delivered by faculty from Institute of Hotel Management, Shillong on this occasion.
