The BSF today seized 53 cattle from Nayabazar and Lyngkhat in East Khasi Hills District

Shillong, July 28: The BSF in its Anti-Smuggling drive, on the International Border, once again acting on a tip off, in area of Nayabazar and Lyngkhat, East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya seized 53 cattle worth more than Rs.10 Lacs while being smuggled to Bangladesh.

It is worth mentioning that the BSF has been continuously effecting seizures in the particular area of Nayabazar and Lyngkhat. The 444 kms Indo-Bangladesh border with Meghalaya State interspersed with riverine, dense forests and hilly terrains which provide ideal conditions for cattle smuggling.

The increasing demand in Bangladesh and high profit involved lures smugglers to indulge in cattle smuggling despite of heavy vigil by the Border guards. Inclement weather also plays supportive role for these criminals. The alert BSF troops are heavily engaged in curbing this menace which has suddenly increased in Meghalaya since last few months.

 After continuous anti -smuggling drives and putting extra vigil on the border, the BSF has been achieving a great success in countering the cattle smuggling effecting considerable seizure in a row at zero line.
