The department of ENT NEIGRIHMS organized its 1st Annual CME- ENT Updates

Shillong, May 31: The department of ENT , Head and  Neck Surgery, NEIGRIHMS organized its 1st Annual CME- ENT Updates and workshop on stapes surgery recently, during the workshop two patients were operated as an in-house training of stapes surgery. The surgeries were conducted by the guest faculty Padmashree Prof. (Dr.) Mohan Kameswaran, Chairman, Madras ENT Research Foundation, Chennai and Dr. Gautam Khaund, Senior ENT consultant, Nightingale Hospital, Guwahati.

The CME was inaugurated by the Director, NEIGRIHMS, Prof (Dr.) D.M Thappa who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He while deliberating on the importance of the CME, stressed for organising such CMEs more frequently so that newer techniques and knowledge is shared by the co-professionals for benefit of maximum patients of the region.HOD ENT Prof.(Dr.) S. Chakraborthy while explaining the theme of the CME said that those patients who are suffering from middle ear disease i.e. fixation of stapes footplate is known as Otosclerosis.

Due to this disease, patients usually suffer from conductive deafness. This disease is treatable following stapes surgery where the bone is replaced by middle ear prosthesis. The different aspect of the pathology and management of the disease were discussed in the CME. Prof. S. Kanagraj from IIT, Guwahati in his presentation deliberated upon the use of different middle ear prosthesis and newer inventions. The CME was attended by 16 ENT Surgeon from Northeast, besides students from IIT Guwahati and Doctors of NEIGRIHMS.
