Shillong, January 24: The Government of Meghalaya has notified “Meghalaya Energy Conservation (Energy Consumption Standards for Equipments and Appliances) Regulation, 2017”. The Regulation stipulates the followings:-
Manufacture and sale of the items mentioned in clause (3) i.e Household Frost Refrigerator, Tubular Florescent Lamps, Room Air Conditioners, Three Phase Distribution Transformers up to 200 KVA, Household Direct Cool Refrigerators, Electric Geysers, Color TVs and also items appliances/equipments which may be notified under the mandatory category by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) without Star Label are prohibited in the State of Meghalaya.
In Public building & Government Departmental Purchases (including Central & State Government Aided Institutions or Semi-Government Undertaking or Public Sector Undertaking or Autonomous Institutions or Boards or Corporations or Municipalities etc. excluding Department of Defence & Atomic Energy)- All new procurement shall be of BEE Star labeled appliances/equipments only and shall be of 3 Star rating or above; in case of type/category of appliances/equipments that are not yet covered under Star Labelling by the BEE, only BIS or ISI or IEC standard appliances/equipments having maximum energy efficiency shall be considered during procurement; and use of incandescent lamp an in efficient magnetic wire-wound chokes/ballasts for discharge lamp in public building is prohibited only LED lamps shall be used for the general lighting purpose.
For all new installations or replacements of three phase transformers up to 200 KVA, BEE Star label transformers shall be the pre-requisite criteria for according commissioning approval by the Inspectorate of Electricity, Government of Meghalaya.
